The University of Florida is known for its developing of quality defensive backs. Churning out top prospects on virtually an annual basis to the NFL, head coach Jim McElwain is always looking to reload the position within each and every recruiting cycle.

On Monday night, the Florida Gators took a step toward achieving this goal. Top 2017 defensive back prospect Marco Wilson committed to the program over the likes of Southern Cal, Georgia, Miami, and Ohio State.

Hailing from American Heritage High School in Plantation, Fla., the 5’10”, 163-pound corner had offers from all across the country. Wilson is cat-quick in coverage. He’s able to stick with smaller receivers, and has enough feistiness to annoy bigger pass-catching options.

Wilson will need to get bigger and stronger in order to deal with the physicality on the next level, but there’s no denying his overall ability (as evidenced by his Hudl tape). Perhaps above all else, his intuitiveness when it comes to reading the play and reacting accordingly makes him a truly special prospect.
