The Florida Gators are leaving Gainesville a day early for Utah as Tropical Storm Idalia approaches the state.

FloridaGators.com writer Scott Carter shared Monday that Billy Napier’s team will head to Dallas on Tuesday, and then leave for Salt Lake City on Wednesday. The Gators play No. 14 Utah on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.

Idalia is expected to make landfall as a Category 3 hurricane on Florida’s Gulf Coast Wednesday morning. The new plans for a stop in Dallas allow the Gators to still arrive in Utah on Wednesday.

The Gators’ trip out west presents unfamiliar circumstances for Napier’s squad. Rice-Eccles Stadium sits 4,637 feet above sea level. Last week, Napier said the staff put a lot of time into preparing how to handle the difference in altitude.

“You know the altitude; we’ve spent extensive time researching that relative to our sports science and training staff,” Napier said in his Friday press conference. “All indications tell us to stay in your normal routine. It really takes 10 days to get adjusted, get in and get out. We’ve met with a lot of NFL teams regarding that, so we feel good about our plan.”
