Florida baseball will send Jac Caglianone to the mound for Game 1 of the Gainesville Regional on Friday.

That announcement was made on Thursday morning by head coach Kevin O’Sullivan.

“We’ll go from there,” O’Sullivan told reporters, referring to the Gators’ rotation for the remainder of the weekend.

Caglianone has been one of the best players in college baseball this season. A nominee for the John Olerud Award, Caglianone haas been effective both at the plate and on the mound.

As a pitcher, Caglianone was part of UF’s weekend rotation. He made 15 starts and pitched a total of 63 innings, which was third most on the team. He finished the year with an ERA of 4.14, which was the best of Florida’s primary rotation arms. He struck out 74 batters but also walked 46 on the year.

Florida will face Florida A&M in the opening game of the Gainesville regional on Friday. If the Gators win, they will advance to face the winner of Texas Tech-UConn.

First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m. ET on Friday. The game will be available on ESPN+.
