Florida’s football program is being investigated by the NCAA, according to a report.

That news was first reported by the Tampa Bay Times’ Matt Baker on Friday afternoon. Baker’s report says the investigation has been underway since at least June of 2023.

Per the report, it’s currently unclear what potential violations Florida is being investigated for. Florida issues a statement through a spokesperson on Friday saying it is cooperating with the NCAA’s investigation. Here’s that statement, obtained by the Tampa Bay Times:

“We have been and will continue to cooperate with the NCAA,” Florida spokesperson Steve McClain said. “We hold ourselves to high standards of excellence and integrity on and off the field. Because we follow NCAA policies about maintaining confidentiality, we are unable to offer additional comments.”

Per the report, the Tampa Bay Times obtained a copy of the NCAA’s “notice of inquiry,” which was sent to Florida president Ben Sasse back in June. The report says the outlet received that document after requesting “notices of inquiry regarding potential violations related to name, image and likeness or recruiting.”

The NCAA has been ramping up NIL enforcement in recent months. Earlier this month, the NCAA sanctioned Florida State for NIL-related recruiting violations. The sanctions include a 3-game suspension for current offensive coordinator Alex Atkins.

Florida coach Billy Napier has been at the helm in Gainesville for the past 2 seasons. The Gators are 11-14 overall and 6-10 during the Napier era.
