Only days after finalizing the 2017 recruiting class, Florida is already getting to work on its 2018 class.

On Friday night, the Gators landed a commitment from Divaad Wilson, a cornerback from Miami.

Wilson pledged his allegiance to the Gators on Twitter:

Coach Jim McElwain has clearly started prioritizing the Miami area in terms of recruitment, which is smart. The area is a hotbed of football talent and the Gators need to be a major player there in order to compete.

Florida defensive coordinator Randy Shannon served as the Miami Hurricanes’ head coach from 2007 to 2010, so he has connections in the area that have already paid dividends for the Gators.

With so many big-name coaches in Florida — from Jimbo Fisher and Charlie Strong to Lane Kiffin and Butch Davis — keeping pace on the recruiting trail is going to be critical for McElwain. Landing a guy like Wilson for the 2018 class is a big step in the right direction as the Gators prepare for the 2017 season.
