Florida has landed a transfer commitment from former Washington defensive back Asa Turner.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound safety spent five seasons at Washington, but decided to enter the transfer portal once coach Kalen DeBoer left to take the Alabama job. Turner is moving to Gainesville as a graduate transfer with one remaining season of eligibility.

Turner appeared in 43 games throughout his time in Seattle. He collected 148 career tackles, seven tackles for loss, eight pass breakups, and six interceptions. He made 28 starts for the Huskies, including six games in 2023 as UW made its run to the College Football Playoff National Championship game.

But Turner battled bone injuries in both hands throughout the 2023 season. He was limited to only four regular-season games — which helped him to preserve a redshirt and save the final year of eligibility.

College football is moving into its offseason, but the action doesn’t slow down. Sports bettors can see the latest odds for college basketball, NFL, and more at the many sportsbooks available today.

He played in the first two games before suffering an injury in the Tulsa game. He missed the next three, then returned for games against Oregon and Arizona State, where he posted 12 total tackles. He missed the next five games before returning to the starting lineup for the Pac-12 Championship Game. Turner had five tackles in the Sugar Bowl win over Texas and started in the CFP title game.

Florida’s transfer class features 11 known commits with Turner’s pledge. The Gators also landed a pledge from former Alabama defensive back Jameer Grimsley over the weekend.

A transfer to UF reunites Turner with Will Harris, the Gators’ new secondary coach. Harris coached Washington’s defensive backs from 2018-21. Turner had two tackles for loss and two interceptions in 10 games in 2021.
