When Jake Allen committed to the Florida Gators as part of the 2017 recruiting class, many thought he could be Jim McElwain’s quarterback of the future.

However, we now know that things have changed drastically in Gainesville. Out is McElwain, in is new coach Dan Mullen, who has a track record of working with quarterbacks who can pass and run.

Now, Allen has seen the writing on the wall, especially after Mullen signed dual-threat QB Emory Jones as part of the Gators’ 2018 class. On Tuesday night, he announced that he was going to transfer from the program:

Allen has not said where he’ll transfer, but there should be a big market for a quarterback who was rated the No. 23 pro-style passer coming out of high school.

That leaves the Gators with Jones, Feleipe Franks and Kyle Trask as the three main quarterbacks on the roster heading into the 2018 season. However, who wins the starting job won’t be decided until this summer.
