Florida has reportedly targeted a coach in its search to replace Mike White, and the Gators are looking at a coach who made the NCAA Tournament.

San Francisco coach Todd Golden is the target, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, who reported, “Expect things to move quickly with San Francisco’s season over after losing in the NCAA tournament on Thursday night.”

The Dons fell to Murray State on Thursday night in overtime, 92-87.

Golden just finished his third season at San Francisco, which went 24-10 this past season, and he was 57-36 over 3 seasons as this was the program’s only NCAA Tournament appearance under Golden.

Prior to being named the Dons’ head coach, Golden spent the previous 3 seasons as the associate head coach under former head coach Kyle Smith. During that time, he served as the Dons’ recruiting and defensive coordinator under Smith. Before San Francisco, Golden coached on the Auburn staff under Bruce Pearl, first as director of basketball operations, and later as an assistant coach focusing on guard play and scheduling. Golden also took a lead role in analytical and metrics data, according to his bio with the Dons.

Golden spent the 2013-14 season as an assistant coach on Kyle Smith’s staff at Columbia. Golden played collegiately at Saint Mary’s College in Moraga where he helped the Gaels to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances.
