Graham Mertz and Ricky Pearsall had career games in Columbia on Saturday. Mertz completed 30-of-48 passes for 423 yards and 3 TDs. Pearsall caught 10 passes for 166 yards and 1 TD.

The massive performances led the Gators to a 41-39 victory over the South Carolina Gamecocks. After the game, the pair both spoke about the big win.

“It was very important for us, especially being a road game,” Pearsall said. “We needed a road win, man.”

Mertz was asked how it felt to air it out and throw for over 400 yards.

“It’s a blast,” Mertz said. “I’m having the most fun I’ve ever had in my life.”

Mertz also mentioned that he isn’t worrying about individual stats like he used to, and is instead more focused on winning games.

“I just want to win with this team,” Mertz explained. “Stats are good, but it’s not my main focus. I just want to help the team win.”

Pearsall was asked if he’d ever had a game-winning touchdown before Saturday.

“Now he has,” Mertz said.

The receiver was then asked how he felt about his performance after a career day.

“I just put in a lot of work,” Pearsall said. “I just want to thank God man, without him I wouldn’t be here.”

The Gators improved to 3-1 in the SEC and 5-2 overall after defeating the Gamecocks.
