Are the Florida Gators in the mix to land a quarterback transfer?

Houston quarterback John O’Korn has been granted his release by the new coaching staff to pursue transfer options, and according to FoxSports’ Bruce Feldman, O’Korn has contacted Texas and Florida. Reports also indicate that O’Korn is interested in Syracuse, Miami and Wisconsin.

O’Korn is a pro-style quarterback who would fit well in all five of those schemes and not with new Houston head coach Tom Herman’s spread offense. O’Korn put up some big numbers in 2013 as the American Athletic Conference’s Rookie of the Year Award winner, throwing for 3,117 yards and 28 touchdowns on an 8-5 team. However, he struggled to get going in 2014 and was benched five games into the season.

O’Korn has nice size at 6-4, 220 pounds, and he’s a native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he attended the talent-rich St. Thomas Aquinas high school. O’Korn’s size will remind you of first-round pick and former UCF quarterback Blake Bortles.

With Florida’s question marks at the position, Jim McElwain would love to land O’Korn, who would have to sit out 2015 because of the transfer rule.
