Kyle Pitts is an emerging star when it comes to the talented crop of NFL tight ends.

The former Florida Gators’ star made history in the 2021 NFL Draft when he became the highest selected tight end of all time when the Atlanta Flacons selected him with the 4th overall pick in the first round. Pitts delivered in a major way — hauling in 68 passes for 1,026 yards his rookie season, only the second rookie to put together that kind of a performance at his position in NFL history.

While a knee injury wrecked his plans for 2022, Pitts has looked great in training camp so far and is planning to be ready for Week 1.

With 2 historic feats so early in his career — it’s not crazy to say the former Gator could end up as one of the top tight ends of all time. Naturally, the NFL asked him who he believed were the greatest to ever play his position in the NFL.

Pitts went with 2 current NFL star tight ends in Travis Kelce and George Kittle, along with Shannon Sharpe. Then he threw it way back, rounding out his list with Ozzie Newsome who had an impressive 12-year career with the Cleveland Browns from 1978-1990. He earned 4 Pro Bowl nods and closed out his career with 662 receptions for 7,790 yards, both Cleveland records, and 45 touchdowns. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1999.

While the game has evolved and changed — and Kelce and Kittle continue to work on their stat lines along with Pitts — it’s impossible to leave Sharpe off this list. In his 14 years in the NFL, he was a major part in leading the Denver Broncos to 3 Super Bowl wins. The 8-time Pro Bowler and 4-time All-Pro selection closed out his career with an eye-popping 850 receptions for 10,060 yards and 65 touchdowns.

Pitts certainly has the talent to end his career with similar numbers, but he has a long way to go.
