Kyle Whittingham’s Utah squad left The Swamp stunned Saturday night.

The No. 7 team in the nation seemed unprepared for 1st-year head coach Billy Napier and company. The Gators rolled behind the arm of Anthony Richardson to a 29-26 Week 1 win.

Whittingham thinks Florida is going to keep winning games if the Gators can keep Richardson healthy under center. He also thinks Dan Mullen left Napier some talented players to work with in his 1st season.

“The cupboard wasn’t bare here when Dan Mullen left,” Whittingham said postgame. “They have some great players, especially the quarterback. If they can keep him healthy, they are going to win a lot of games.”

Richardson, a Mullen product, was a force in the running game. The Gators are going to beat a lot of teams with their run game, and Richardson’s dual threat ability is the catalyst. He rushed for 106 yards and 3 touchdowns and threw for 168 yards, connecting on 17 of his 24 passes.

Florida hosts Kentucky next week looking to improve to 2-0. The Gators and Wildcats will almost certainly both be ranked within the top 25 come Saturday.
