When it comes to the Florida coaching search, former coach Steve Spurrier is expected to be heavily involved. However, he keeps saying he isn’t pushing a candidate on AD Scott Stricklin.

On Wednesday, he addressed rumors that he and Stricklin differ on who should be the new Florida coach, and continue to discuss his role in the search on ESPNU Radio on SiriusXM.

As you can hear below, Spurrier said he doesn’t expect a new hire to be made any time soon and added that he’s not actively recommending anyone:

“A lot of the coaches that maybe are candidates, or that Scott Stricklin is interested in, are still coaching, so I don’t think anything’s going to happen for a couple of weeks here,” he said. “I really believe nothing will be done until the season is over. And I’m not pushing anyone, I’m not recommending anyone. If Scott Stricklin asks me for my opinion, I’ll do that.

“The only thing I’ve said is that I hope the new coach hires one or two former Gators for the staff. I just think that’s important, whoever the new coach may be.”

Spurrier seemingly has more inside knowledge of the situation at Florida than most people, so if he says it’ll be a couple of weeks before a hire is made, it’s probably smart to believe him.
