UCF quarterback Dillon Gabriel was impressive in the Knights’ 49-21 drubbing of Georgia Tech on Saturday, completing 27-of-41 passes for a career-high 417 yards and 4 touchdowns.

After his stellar performance, Gabriel was certainly feeling confident, as he quipped that he believes UCF is the best team in the state of Florida.

This is nothing new. UCF has made bold claims before, as we all know.

Gabriel was asked about his comment again Monday, and he doubled down on that take, leaving no doubt that he believes UCF is the creme of the crop in the Sunshine State.

“I said what I said, and I was confident in it,” Gabriel said via the Orlando Sentinel. “I still think we’re the best team in Florida, and that’s all I have to say.”

Unfortunately for Florida, the Gators will not have a chance to directly prove Gabriel wrong in a head-to-head matchup this season or anytime soon. Gabriel likely will continue to have the luxury of stating this claim as UCF wades through its murderer’s row of East Carolina, Tulsa, and No. 17 Memphis in the next 3 weeks.

The Gators open the season with Ole Miss on Saturday, before facing South Carolina and No. 10 Texas A&M.

The outlook of the 2020 bowl season is incredibly murky at this point, but if bowl games do happen, there will likely be many Florida fans keeping their fingers crossed for a shot at the Knights.
