Two assistants who worked with Dan Mullen in his first stint at Florida are coming back to Gainesville with the new Gators coach.

The coach announced that two long-time assistants, Billy Gonzales and John Hevesy, would be assistants on his new Florida staff. Gonzales and Hevesy have each spent at least 10 seasons working with Dan Mullen. Defensive coordinator Todd Grantham is expected to join the Florida staff, but that decision is pending Mississippi State hiring Mullen’s replacement, according to a report from Football Scoop.

Gonzales, was in his fifth season at Mississippi State coaching wide receivers, and as MSU’s co-offensive coordinator overseeing the passing game for four seasons.

Gonzales has been with Mullen for more than half of his career, including 14 combined seasons at Bowling Green, Utah, Florida and Mississippi State. Gonzales coached in three BCS National Championship games with Florida (2006, 2008) and LSU (2011) during a six-year span.

Hevesy was in his ninth season at Mississippi State, and spent the past three seasons as the Bulldogs’ co-offensive coordinator coaching the offensive line, which he had done since 2009.
