North Texas coach Seth Littrell expects to use a two-quarterback system in Saturday’s game at Florida, according to Gridiron Now. Litrell said he plans to split reps between freshman Mason Fine and former Alabama graduate transfer Alec Morris against the Gators.

Morris opened the season as North Texas’ starting quarterback, but was replaced by Fine during last week’s win over Bethune-Cookman. Litrell said he was impressed with the freshman’s maturity and intelligence.

“He’s just got ‘it,’” Littrell said. “He’s one of those guys who doesn’t get rattled and is extremely smart. One of those guys who’s a 4.0 student, just understands the system. He has that presence about him. Guys look to him and follow him.”

As of now, Fine is the expected starter for Saturday’s game.

“I thought he brought a lot of energy. His numbers (11-of-22 for 108 yards) weren’t the most impressive thing, just looking at it on paper, but he managed the game very well,” Littrell said.

However, the coach also indicated that Morris’ experience in the SEC would help him see the field as well.

“He has a lot of experience in these types of games. He understands what they’re about,” said Littrell, who is in his first season at UNT after spending two seasons as the offensive coordinator at North Carolina.

Morris was a reserve for the Tide from 2012-15 and appeared in one game in 2015.
