Two pass-catchers have featured prominently in the highlights created by Florida’s high-powered passing offense. Tight end Kyle Pitts leads all Gators receivers with 355 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns. In UF’s last two games, however, Kadarius Toney has been more productive than Pitts when it comes to both yards (152 to 128) and touchdowns (4 to 1). For teams like Georgia trying to defend against Florida, that presents some challenges.

SEC Network analysts Chris Doering and Gene Chizik tackled the topic. SEC Now’s Dari Nowkah asked Doering if Toney or Pitts is the biggest concern.

“I think Kyle Pitts is gotta be your first and foremost focus, but I think it’s a pick your poison,” Doering said. “You say ‘dealer’s choice,’ well, you go ahead and take Pitts away, that leaves Toney matched up sitting 1-on-1, how about Trevon Grimes? Another big physical guy on the outside. Florida will just roll wave after wave of talented receivers at you. And I think, again, that’s where you’ll see the absence of Richard LeCounte hurt, the inability to erase those mistakes.”

Chizik chimed in that using big bodies on the outside allows Florida to use Toney in the slot, where he has been particularly dangerous.

The analysts were being generous to Grimes describing him as 6-5, 6-6. The senior is listed at 6-4, 218 pounds on the official roster. The former No. 41 overall recruit in the class of 2017 has 11 catches for 167 yards and 2 touchdowns on the season.
