Steve Spurrier made the interview rounds on Thursday and floated two different names for the Tennessee opening.

The former Florida and South Carolina coach currently working as an ambassador at Florida was a guest on the The Paul Finebaum Show. In speaking to Finebaum, Spurrier said Washington State coach Mike Leach would be his pick to coach the Vols. That followed an appearance on ESPNU Radio, when Spurrier said former quarterback Tee Martin should come back to Knoxville.

With Finebaum, Spurrier even dropped the nickname, “the Leacher.”

“I like Mike Leach a lot,” Spurrier said, then joked with Finebaum about Spurrier being his offensive coordinator if he were the coach at Tennessee.

“They’ll fine somebody here pretty soon, and maybe it’ll work out, who knows,” Spurrier said.

Spurrier said he didn’t know about Greg Schiano’s Penn State connection and he figured the Vols “did their homework.” The Head Ball Coach added that in a month or two, “it’ll all be forgiven” and everyone will get back to recruiting and talking about signing classes.
