The Florida Gators enter 2015 looking for offensive playmakers, and Jim McElwain may even look to his All-American cornerback Vernon Hargreaves to help give his unit a spark.

McElwain has already confirmed that Hargreaves will be the Gators’ primary punt returner, but he told Sports Illustrated that he even has “packages” for Hargreaves on offense.

TIR: Junior cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III might have been the top player selected at his position in April’s NFL Draft had he been eligible for it. You’ve faced some great corners during your coaching career. Where’s he rank?

McElwain: Vernon is as good a player in all aspects of the game as I’ve been around. Let me say this too, the guy loves to practice. He’s not a prima donna, which really to me is what sets him apart. I’ll go ahead and tell you, but we’ve got packages for him on offense too.

TIR: Care to elaborate?

McElwain: (Laughs) I’ll leave it at that.

Obviously, Hargreaves is considered Florida’s best overall player and one of the team’s top athletes. He’s a freak who can squat 500 pounds and boasts a 41-inch vertical.

Might we see the best cornerback in college football play some offense? It certainly couldn’t hurt Florida’s chances, especially when McElwain is looking for playmakers. It’s important to remember, though, that Florida threatened to use former corners Loucheiz Purifoy and Joe Haden on offense, too, but it turns out those were just merely threats.
