WATCH: 2020 Georgia QB commit Carson Beck explains how he used Florida to land Georgia offer
Earlier this week, the Georgia Bulldogs added 4-star 2020 QB Carson Beck to their class, with the former Alabama commit picking the Dawgs over Florida and others.
He had recently named Florida the leader in his recruiting process, but that all changed when he took a visit to Athens.
As you can see in the video below, Beck revealed that he had an ulterior motive for naming the Gators his leader:
We sat down with Mr. Football & UGA commit Carson Beck (@carsonbeck01). We confirmed his recruitment is no longer open
“I had obviously named Florida my leader. I put that out there to say hey this is the team coming at me the hardest…”

“I had obviously named Florida my leader,” he said. “I put that out there to say ‘hey, this is the team coming at me the hardest. This is the team where I can see myself at.’ But also, I kind of had two schools at the back of my head, one of them being Georgia, where, if I got that offer, I would pause for a second and say ‘OK, hold on a second, I’ve got to pause and take this in.’ I took a visit up there (to Athens) and it was absolutely awesome and everything I expected.”
That decision by Beck will add some more fuel to the Georgia-Florida rivalry, but it seems Beck is fairly set in his decision. Per the 247Sports composite, Beck is the No. 3 pro-style quarterback in the class of 2020 and the No. 7 overall recruit from the state of Florida.
His path at UGA is probably a little easier, but not by much. Fromm will be gone after next year and after Fromm, UGA’s QB room isn’t the strongest.
But that Mathis kid looks like a beast & will be hard to beat and he is an incoming freshman.
I guess that beats sitting behind FF and the Jones at UF.
I guarantee that he is making the wrong choice for his development, It doesn’t get better than Mullen & Johnson.
Best of luck to him though…
is that why Nick Fitzgerald’s passing stats got worse every single year under Mullen?
Fitzgerald was considered one of the best QBs in the SEC under Mullen. He was a dark horse Heisman candidate going into last season and had one of his worst seasons ever under Moorehead. State fans were calling for his benching as the season progressed. It’s pretty obvious he regressed big time without Mullen. Get a clue Vol boy.
Sophmore Year (first as a starter under Mullen): 196/361, 54.3%, 2,423 yds passing, 21 TDs, 10 INTs, 124.3 QBR
Junior Year (still under Mullen): 159/286, 55.6%, 1,782 yds passing, 15 TDs, 11 INTs, 117.5 QBR
Senior Year (under Moorehead): 145/281, 51.6%, 1,767 yds passing, 16 TDs, 9 INTs, 116.8 QBR.
Yea he really fell off after Mullen left. Then again math is hard when you’re always ingesting bath salts.
Also I didn’t include his freshman year as he was a backup and played sparingly but his #s from that season were better than any other, seems like once he spent a little time with Mullen he went downhill.
The regression of Fitz doesn’t give us a straightforward answer about Mullen. Perhaps Mullen didn’t/couldn’t develop him, and Mullen just ran a system that artificially made him look good. Or Mullen may have developed him, but Morehead ran a system that confused or ruined him. Many assume the latter because of Dak, but that doesn’t make it so.
I didn’t see VolTrashCanGuy’s comment before responding
No wait….. Did you really just say that Nick Fitzgerald was one of the best QBs in the SEC? As in the 12th best? Maybe? Yeah he was a darkhorse Heisman candidate. He had the same odds of winning the award as the left guard for BYU… Ok Mrs. Mullen, time to put the keyboard down….
Vol boy is right, Mullen can’t coach or develop QBs. Look what he accomplished with Leak, Tebow, Prescott and Franks, pretty pathetic right?
Mullen and Fitzgerald came to Athens two years ago and got blown out. Next claim please Gator fans.
Don’t forget to remind us that Mullen has never beat Kirby as a head coach. Yeah, I know that don’t mean sheet, but you puppies like to parrot that line. Sort of makes you feel safe I guess.
Don’t forget, Mullet has a super duper, trademark, never fail QB development trick, no other coach can dulicate it.
Mullet’s homoerotic dance.
He did it for Franks and just you watch, Franks will win the Heisman in 2019.
CO, Dawg fans have a serious napoleon complex. They’re the little guys who have been bullied for years by the big bad Gators and now they have a false sense of superiority. It seems in their uneducated minds, somehow winning 2 games where both Mullen and Smart were head coaches, instantly turns into some historical dominance that’ll never end. Apparently 2 years of winning somehow erases almost 25 years of dominance. Maybe try owning this series for longer than 2 seasons before professing your dominance. Until then it’s just pathetic and quite comical actually.
I believe that as bad as the 90s and early 2000s were for UGA vs Florida, we still have about a 10 game all time lead over Florida. So think of how lopsided it must have been up until about 1990! Now it is getting that way again. Get used to it Gator fans.
Hey Joe that’s why I keep telling them not to get so excited about a 2 year “dynasty”
You guarantee? What do we get if you’re wrong?
It was last year or the year before that one of their players guaranteed a win over Georgia. That didn’t happen either.
Those 1980 Nation Championship Tees still fit?
Go try in fit in the 1980 National Championship tees from your last Natty. You can dream big but in reality you have had 2 years of success, you were losing to Vandy on Homecoming now so long ago. #facts #sugarbowl
bluntforce…and not so long ago 2013 UF lost to FCS Ga. Southern. #facts #mostembarrassingloss
There’s still a long ways to go until either signing day. In college football recruiting, nothing is over until they sign their national letter of intent.
And let’s not forget the Transfer Portal. Controlled by the NCAA, so no worries there…
That’s a good point, that adds a new dimension to recruiting as players in some cases might need to be convinced to stay.
I thought I read somewhere that this guy was a Dawg fan growing up. That seems consistent with a lot of what we’ve seen from him so far. It’s still good for UGA (though maybe not as impressive of a recruitment), but it also isn’t horrible for UF.
I wouldn’t bet the farm on this young man’s verbal. I hope he does end up at UGA but sounds like he is suceptable to the “moment.”
For the crack-head, dead-head lizard licker who was babbling about “the little guys”, “napoleon complex”, “historical dominance” blah blah blah. I would say you know who you are but in all likelihood you don’t know who you are, oh well.
The UGA/UF series:
UGA leads the series 53-43-2
Largest margin of victory UGA 75-0 (Kirby could have easily broken this record in 2017)
Longest winning streak, each at 7-0
Current winning streak, UGA at 2-0
I won’t say that UGA is “historically dominant” but UGA is clearly the better team in the series.
————————————————-
Kirby may not have Mullet’s homoerotic dance moves but Kirby is 2-1 as UGA HC against UF, with the last 2 games being beat-downs of 42-7 and 38-17. Kibry could have hung a 100 in UF in 2017 but he called off the Dawgs in the 1st Qtr.
Lizard lickers – Mark Richt is gone and Ray Goff is long gone. Assume the position (your historical position that is), Kirby will own you when it’s all said and done.
When you can get past UK and Mizzou in the same season, get back with us. Heck when you can honestly claim to be the #2 team in Florida get back with us.
See here’s your problem you start out with good facts about UGA beating florida all valid and true facts and that is where you should have stopped but then you make yourself look stupid and continue on. I will admit that until UF recruits at a hire talent Smart will beat Mullen on talent alone. I do think Mullen is a better X’s and O’s coach and probably at developing talent especially QB’s but as a overall coach Kirby is better because recruiting is the most important thing in football. See there’s a logical statement but then me saying that you guy’s need to beat LSU or win you bowl game has nothing to do with UGA vs UF just like UF beating mizzou and UK have nothing to do with beating UGA
ben, you are replying to a one of the worst puppy posters on these boards, you can’t expect any semblance of common sense or reality from that loser.
UF doesn’t have to recruit much better than UGA to beat them. Spurrier proved that. We do have to recruit better than what Mac did and Mullen is well on his way of doing that. Georgia has always recruited at an elite level but when we have a better gameday coach, play caller and talent developer it doesn’t matter. That was the case with Spurrier, Meyer and now Mullen. All is good.
Also taking a 4-7 team to finishing second in their conference, top 10 in the country, winning a bowl game, and beating your in state rival handily which we haven’t beat in 5 years is pretty impressive in one year definitely more impressive than what Kirby did with his team that had way more talent his first year. Also UF is as of right now definately the best team in Florida you saying otherwise is just dumb and I know most UGA fans and college football fans will agree. Point is if you’re going to insult someone stick to relevent facts. I could say that Kirby Smart lost to the worst UF coach in my life time but that has nothing to do with UGA vs. UF now
Mark Richt is indeed gone but it’s the same old song and dance for the puppies. Top 10 recruiting rankings with double digit win seasons and no NC rings to show for it. Muschamp 2.0 may be able to recruit slightly better than CMR but I don’t expect anything to change in Athens. Squandering superior level talent is just in UGA’s blood.
Doing less with more is in the leg humper’s DNA
Here’s what I dont get you have this team (UF) recruiting hard and then UGA just comes in and offers and you automatically commit I wouldnt call that pausing for a second. Not saying that UGA isnt a good team to play for or that he cant be successful but as a Gator fan thats not necessarily the type of kid I want playing at UF and seems to be like a Justin Fields type player in the sense that if he doesn’t start soon he’s gone. I have nothing wrong with a kid going to another school but I feel like its shows their character when they pretty much lie. He had said before that he grew up a gator fan and is now insinuating that he just UF to get UGA or that other school.
