Once again, Dan Mullen made the perfect call at the perfect time.
Facing fourth-and-3 on their own 37-yard drive, Mullen sensed it was the time to roll the dice. He called a perfectly executed fake punt. Tommy Townsend ran 18 yards to pick up a first down. Moments later, QB Feleipe Franks hit WR Van Jefferson for a 38-yard touchdown pass to cut Vanderbilt’s lead to one point (21-20) after the extra point.
Trick plays have played big parts in Florida’s wins over Mississippi State and LSU. We’ll see if it sparks a comeback win. Vanderbilt leads 21-20 with 3:00 left in the third quarter.
