Florida head coach Billy Napier knew that his starting quarterback Anthony Richardson would have good days and bad ones.

But it’s the performances like the one the sophomore had Saturday in a 41-24 win over Texas A&M that get the first-yesr head coach excited about the future.

“I think he’ll look back at this as one of those days that is a pivotal day,” Napier said. “He’s playing with confidence. I really think Anthony’s problems are not physical.”

Richardson played under control all day and avoided the big mistakes. He completed 17-of-28 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns. The 6-foot-4, 232-pound quarterback rushed for 78 yards and two touchdowns as well.

Running back Montrell Johnson also had a big day on the ground with 100 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries.

“Just proud of the overall response,” Napier said. And the execution was there.”

Florida (5-4) earned its first win over a Jimbo Fisher-coached team since 2012 with a strong second half where they outscored the Aggies 21-0 and forced two turnovers.

“I can’t complement the leadership of our staff and the leadership of our players [enough],” Napier said. “You saw some of that today.”
