2014 Mississippi State vs South Alabama

The Mississippi State Bulldogs took their show on the road for the first time in 2014, traveling down to Mobile, Alabama for a showdown with the South Alabama Jaguars in Ladd-Peebles Stadium.

The Bulldogs’ defense dominated the Jags’ offense, limiting South Alabama to just 57 yards rushing on 28 carries, an average of just 2.1 yards per carry. USA actually threw for more yards than Mississippi State (288-226), but four Jaguars’ turnovers killed any chance of a touchdown for the game. Tolando Cleveland and Will Redmond both intercepted passes for MSU, and the Bulldogs’ defense also forced and recovered two USA fumbles.

Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott threw for a touchdown, ran for a touchdown and even caught a touchdown pass from wideout Jameon Lewis in the win. It was the second time in his career he had scored three touchdowns three different ways in the same game. Prescott threw for 211 yards and rushed for 139, marking the second straight week he’d thrown for 200 yards and rushed for 100. Prescott’s 139 yards on the ground led the team.

Tailback Josh Robinson carried the ball 12 times for 77 yards and two touchdowns, and Lewis caught a team-high six passes for 76 yards in addition to his touchdown toss.

With the win, Mississippi State improved to 3-0.
