2014 Utah State vs Tennessee

The Tennessee Volunteers opened their season with a dominant 38-7 win over Utah State at Neyland Stadium. The Vols jumped out to an early lead and held the Aggies scoreless through three quarters, shutting down dual-threat quarterback Chuckie Keeton.

Quarterback Justin Worley finished with 273 yards and three touchdowns on 27-of-38 passing. The senior connected with three different receivers for scores: Brendan Downs for 12 yards, Von Pearson for 14 and Jalen Hurd for 15.

Marlin Lane led Tennessee with 41 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. Hurd also saw 11 attempts out of the backfield, rushing for 29 yards in his collegiate debut.

Alton “Pig” Howard provided Tennessee’s first score of the season on an eight-yard end-around. Howard finished with 46 total yards (37 receiving, nine rushing).

Tennessee’s defense dominated on third down, forcing Utah State’s offense to a 2-of-13 3rd down efficiency and 0-of-1 on 4th down. The Vols held a 383-244 advantage in total yards and a 34:35-25:25 edge in time of possession.
