Aaron Murray believed Stetson Bennett is the greatest quarterback in Georgia’s history.

Bennett secured his 2nd consecutive national championship with the Georgia Bulldogs on Monday night. The national championship capped off an impressive season for Bennett and the Bulldogs. Bennett was a Heisman Trophy finalist and led the Bulldogs to the College Football Playoff.

Murray, who was one of the best quarterbacks in Georgia’s history, praised Bennett for his accomplishments at Georgia. Bennett had a circuitous journey to being a legendary Georgia quarterback.

While appearing on CBS Sports Radio, Murray was asked about what Bennett meant to the program:

“For me, he elevated himself in my book to the greatest Georgia quarterback of all time… Being in Athens and playing for 5 years, you learn the history, you learn the names of the greats, you see those highlights, and you talk to enough people you kind of realize who meant the most to the University of Georgia. To see what he’s done in 2 years. To play the way he’s played. I thought he’s played tremendously well, especially in big time moments,” Murray said.

Bennett’s journey as a walk-on and then as a junior college player was unexpected. When he returned to Georgia in 2019, he had to sit behind Jake Fromm and JT Daniels in the 2019 season and the 2020 season. He eventually became the starter in the 2021 season and never looked back.

Georgia completed an undefeated 2022 season.
