Higher expectations are becoming a way of life for Georgia this season as several people believe the Bulldogs could — or should — have won a national championship in January.

There are plenty of holes to fill from departures of all-time great players, but the cupboard is increasing full, though the most highly decorated players still have some seasoning to come.

Athlon Sports had several writers and editors analyze the season and give their predictions. They slightly disagreed, but overall expected another banner year. The four season predictions saw Georgia go 12-0, 12-0 and 11-1 and 11-1. The two losses are expected to be against South Carolina, an increasingly popular offseason opinion, and Auburn, which would duplicate last year’s regular season meeting.

Steven Lassan outlined his opinion, and candidly admitted he couldn’t locate a stumbling block. Quarterback Jake Fromm, running back D’Andre Swift and wide receiver Demetris Robertson are among his reasons.

“It’s not easy to go undefeated, but I’m having a hard time finding a loss for Georgia this season,” he wrote. “The favorable path is a big reason why I think the Bulldogs are back in the CFB Playoff this fall. Defense led the way for Georgia in 2017, but the focal point of the team is likely to shift to the offense.”

Writer Nick Cole admitted he couldn’t find multiple losses, but said South Carolina, LSU and Auburn are all dangerous games.

“This team is too talented to project multiple losses, but there also appear to be too many challenges to comfortably predict that the Bulldogs will run the table in the regular season,” he wrote. “The game that stands out to me as a difficult test will be Week 2 at South Carolina, where the Gamecocks’ faithful will be as hyped for a game as they have been in several years.”
