Georgia’s recent run of quarterbacks has been incredibly strong. It’s up to Carson Beck to continue the new tradition.

It’s unknown whether Beck will start for the Bulldogs when they host the University of Alabama-Birmingham at 3:30 pm EST today to begin the season, according to multiple reports.

Can Beck be the next Matthew Stafford? We should all know much more after today.

JT Daniels was solid – but not spectacular – in the season-opening win against Clemson. Daniels completed 22-of-30 passes for 135 yards with no touchdowns and an interception in the 10-3 win over Clemson. The score pretty much tells it all. The Clemson game was a defensive battle. There are dozens of quarterbacks in the nation that could have overseen that victory.

There has been some speculation that Stetson Bennett would be the starter, too. We’ll see.

Here are 5 things to know about Beck:

Beck may be the future

The decision to start Beck over Bennett would send a clear signal. Georgia’s coaches could believe in Beck moving forward. If Georgia does indeed start Beck over Bennett, who is a senior, it is a clear message to Georgia fans and the team that the coaches have confidence in him.

Bennett, who has started several games in his career, would be the easy choice to start. He’s the senior. Beck is just a redshirt freshman. It’ll be interesting to see what direction the UGA coaches go.

Beck may have a short leash

With Bennett on the sideline, don’t expect Georgia coaches to continue with Beck for long if he struggles against UAB, which is often overlooked nationwide. UAB plays solid defense and has grown into a strong program. The UAB game is no surefire win, especially after the Bulldogs’ offense struggled against Clemson last week.

Beck is a highly touted winner

Beck, who is from Jacksonville, Fla., was invited to the 2019 Elite 11 finals, which is widely considered the most prestigious quarterback camp in the nation for high school prospects. Beck won the “Best College Fit” for that event. Beck was considered a four-star prospect and the ninth-ranked pro-style quarterback in the nation. He was also the 2018 USA Today Florida Offensive Player of the Year.

Beck led Mandarin High School to a state title. It was the first championship for Mandarin High in school history. Beck was also was a strong baseball prospect as a first baseman and pitcher. Before transferring to Mandarin, Beck had a .354 batting average with 22 runs batted in as a high school sophomore.

Georgia fans know Beck well

Beck completed 22-of-31 passes for 236 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the G-Day Spring Game. That may not be nationally known but you can bet it isn’t lost on fans who bleed red and black. They’ve seen Beck play well. If he plays well today, things could get interesting when Daniels returns from his injury.

Beck knows discipline

Beck’s father, Chris Beck, was a linebacker for Navy. You can bet there’s some toughness in that upbringing. And on this somber day, thank you for your service Mr. Beck.
