Carson Beck NFL Draft decision declared ‘foolish’ by scout, per Todd McShay
Carson Beck announced his plans to enter the 2025 NFL Draft last Saturday. The veteran passer could have returned for a final season in college at Georgia or elsewhere, but will instead go ahead and make the next leap.
The 2025 quarterback class is considered relatively weak compared to previous years. Due to the weak class, Beck is projected to be one of the top QBs available. However, NFL draft analyst Todd McShay believes Beck is making the wrong decision.
On a recent episode of The McShay Show, the analyst said his NFL connections are highly critical of Beck’s decision.
“Carson Beck made a bad decision to leave early. I texted a bunch of guys in the league, GMs, former GMs, scouts. One Scout wrote back to me, one word answer — ‘foolish.’”
Beck sustained a season-ending injury in the SEC Championship Game against Texas, so the QB cannot improve his draft stock before April. He is expected to resume throwing this spring and be healthy ahead of the next football season.
In 2024, the QB threw for 3,485 yards with 28 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Beck led the Bulldogs to an appearance in the SEC Championship Game with the team going on to win and secure the No. 2 seed in the College Football Playoff.
“I thought he got better late in the season, as I said, but I don’t think he’s there yet. Played great in certain moments,” explained McShay. “I thought he played better late in the season, but he never, this year played to the level that many of us expected him to play to.”
The NFL Draft will kick off on April 24 from Green Bay. Beck is considered one of the top QB prospects behind Shedeur Sanders, Cam Ward, and Jalen Milroe.
