Dana Holgorsen is a fan of what Kirby Smart has built at Georgia.

The Houston head coach spent his Wednesday as one of the newcomers at Big 12 Media Day, introducing the Cougars to their new conference. During his time with the media, he paid a massive compliment to Smart’s program.

“I’ve been to Alabama, I’ve been to a lot of NFL places. What they’re doing right now at Georgia is on a whole other level,” Holgorsen said, per FootballScoop’s Zach Barnett.

Holgorsen has been the head coach of the Cougars since 2019. Before that, he spent 8 seasons as West Virginia’s head coach. After a successful run as an offensive coordinator, Holgorsen became one of the more respected offensive minds in college football.

Smart is exactly that for the other side of the football. A defensive coordinator under Nick Saban for years with the Crimson Tide, Smart took over at Georgia in 2016 and has turned the Bulldogs into a modern-era dynasty.

They’ve won back-to-back national championships. They’ve won 81 of the 96 games played under his direction. And they’ve finished inside the AP Top 10 in each of the last 6 seasons. Players who have come through the program have said the weekly operation is as good as it gets leading into Saturday, and that Smart’s practices are what sets the Bulldogs apart come gameday.

Hard to argue with Holgorsen’s assessment.
