David Pollack declares his alma mater Georgia out of the CFP race
David Pollack acknowledged that he may tick some people off with this one.
Following Georgia’s loss to Alabama in the 2023 SEC Championship game Saturday night, Pollack took to social media to give his opinion on how the CFP field should be affected by Alabama’s win.
Pollack thinks the Bulldogs are out after “Georgia beat Georgia” Saturday night. Here’s his post:
I know this will tick people off but ??♂️ Georgia has beat Georgia tonight.
Missed FG
Turn over inside own 20
Way too many pentalites. Still very much in game.
The Committee doesn’t put the 4 best teams in, they pick the 4 they can justify the easiest. UGA is out.— David Pollack (@davidpollack47) December 3, 2023
And while the former Georgia linebacker may get some weird looks from fellow Bulldogs, his logic is sound. There are simply too many strong-resume teams for Georgia to have had any wiggle room against the Crimson Tide.
Ultimately, the Texas Longhorns have a conference championship and a win over Alabama while the Bulldogs do not. Texas got it done on the field while Georgia did not, regardless of the strength of their opponent.
Georgia can only hope the committee adopts an extreme interpretation of the “4 best teams” in the sport. It’s hard to argue Texas is truly the better team among the 2.
Whether or not the committee agrees will be revealed on Sunday.
