David Pollack recently checked the pulse of his alma mater Georgia during an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show.

No. 1 Georgia is coming off a 37-20 victory against Vanderbilt to improve to 7-0. However, the Bulldogs are now without star tight end Brock Bowers, who had ankle surgery and could miss between 3-6 weeks.

The analyst doesn’t deny the impact of losing the focal point of the Bulldogs’ offense. However, he believes quarterback Carson Beck is capable of upping his game to the necessary level.

“They’re an offensive team. I think they’re a team that you’re going to have to depend on Carson Beck. He’s a flame thrower. That dude’s got an arm. He’s got poise,” Pollack said. “He’s got weapons…I think they’re good enough to score with anybody.”

The biggest concern for Pollack is the defense. Georgia hasn’t allowed over 21 points in any game this season, yet the standard is high for the back-to-back national champions.

“Stopping people is going to continue to be a challenge. You saw it with Vanderbilt again. If you turn on the game in the last 2 years and you watch Georgia’s defense and you turn it on now, you’re like what happened? All of those guys that you saw during those 2 year runs, they’re all playing on Sundays,” Pollack said. “…All 11 defensive starters from the first national championship team all got drafted. It’s going to look different.”

Pollack acknowledges that there’s some upcoming challenges on the slate, particularly at home vs. Ole Miss and Missouri, but is confident Georgia will withstand them.

“But if you look at the schedule, Ole Miss is going to be a problem. A running quarterback with a system that can also run the football, throw the football a little bit more. Missouri is their next toughest game,” Pollack said. “…It is a tough place to go into with that crowd, that noise, that atmosphere. It’s tough for anybody to go in there and win.”

Georgia is currently on a bye week and will face off with rival Florida on Oct. 28 (3:30 p.m. EST/CBS).
