Gary Danielson still believes Georgia is a premier team in college football, but after he saw the Bulldogs last week, the CBS Sports broadcaster has a new-found description for the Bulldogs.

“Overall, I would say that they still have overall great talent,” Danielson said on the Miller and Moulton Podcast. “But no eye-catching talent on the defensive front 7 where you go, ‘Well, there’s for sure a guy the (offense) has to game plan against.’ And they’ve had that for a good run of 3 years now, maybe even 4 years up front.”

Danielson said he wished he would have highlighted something as he watched Georgia beat South Carolina on Saturday.

“Their best player, Javon Bullard, not playing, it really makes a difference for that football team,” he said. “He’s the MVP of both the semifinal and final game, and he is a difference-maker. He is the captain of their defense. They’ve had a couple busts in the secondary.

As good as Georgia still is, Danielson said, the arrivals and departures from last year’s team, and various injuries, have led him to this conclusion. The tight end position last season, for example, gave Georgia the chance for a 6th offensive lineman, and a 4th wide receiver who could block.

“They’re still really, really good, but with the injuries they’ve had at running back, breaking in a new quarterback, a new offensive coordinator, and without Bullard, I’m willing to say this is a team that’s still growing, and I think that’s the way the Georgia fans should look at it,” Danielson said. “… They’re unique, absolutely unique, and I’ve been doing it a long time, 2022 of their 2 tight ends, Darnell Washington and Brock Bowers, the combination there was devastating for college. … That’s still a position that was dominant for them a year ago, that is good right now, but different than it was a year ago.”
