Georgia kicker Marshall Morgan, the player involved in a hit that has left Southern wide receiver Devon Gales without movement in his lower body, visited the injured player’s family at an Athens-area hospital earlier this week.

Gales was injured in the third quarter during a kickoff return while he was blocking for a teammate. Engaged with Morgan during the play, it appears Gales’ helmet made contact with Morgan’s pads, forcing his head to jolt backward.

Motionless on the field, Gales was rushed to Athens Regional Medical Center where he had successful surgery on Sunday to repair several fractures in his neck.

“I think that was really healthy for him and the family,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said, according to DawgNation. “If he didn’t go I don’t think they would’ve thought one way or another. But I think it was good for him to go and talk to everybody. And understand that it’s football. No one’s mad at Marshall and he didn’t do anything that was out of line in any way, shape or form. It’s just unfortunate.”
