On the same day that Bulldogs TE Isaac Nauta announced he’d enter the NFL Draft, freshman TE Luke Ford announced that he would transfer.

Thus, the Bulldogs’ TE depth just took a huge hit after Friday’s news.

Ford has been listed in the transfer portal for a while, and he missed the start of Sugar Bowl prep because he went back home to Illinois. Ford then returned to UGA ahead of the Sugar Bowl and was with the team in New Orleans. However, after the game, he indicated that he may transfer to Illinois. That decision appears to be final.

Ford took to social media Friday to announce his decision.

“I love all my teammates and friends that I met in Athens,” Ford wrote. “Also, I’d like to thank all the UGA fans for being amazing throughout the year. However, due to my grandparents’ deteriorating health and my family’s inability to afford to see me play in person each week, I will be transferring to the University of Illinois.”

Ford signed with Georgia in the Bulldogs top-ranked class of 2018. He was ranked as a 4-star prospect and was ranked as the nation’s No. 51 overall prospect and the state of Illinois’ No. 1 overall player, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.
