It’s time to put on a bow on the 2018 season for the Georgia Bulldogs when they take on the Texas Longhorns on Tuesday night in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans. It’s been a very good season, but one that fell a bit short of what everyone wanted.

Still, it’s a quality bowl game, a New Year’s 6 game with a lot of history against one of college football’s best programs. It’s no Playoff game — and after watching those two games Saturday, it really hurt not being in the field even more — but it’s a quality high-profile game none the less that will have millions of eyeballs on it.

Here are 10 bold predictions for Tuesday night’s Sugar Bowl:

1. Alabama-Oklahoma was an appropriate preview

This SEC-Big 12 showdown between Georgia and Texas probably won’t be much different from what we saw Saturday night in the Alabama-Oklahoma Playoff semifinal. There’s just a huge difference in these two leagues. They don’t play much defense in the Big 12, and it’s probably going to be a similar high-scoring game. Expect Georgia to threaten scoring 50 points, but also expect Texas to move the ball.

2. Georgia’s running game will average more than 6 yards per carry

Texas has allowed 100 more points than Georgia this season, and it’s prone to giving up yards on the ground. Georgia’s running game has been very good all year, averaging 5.8 yards per carry behind stars D’Andre Swift and Elijah Holyfield. Look for a handful of long runs from this pair, especially Swift, who’s broken some huge games late in the season. He rushed for 83 yards against Kentucky and a 77-yard score against Auburn. Holyfield is just 44 yards from 1,000, and he’ll get that easily.

3. The offense will generate at least 7 plays of 30 yards or more

Georgia has been a big-play offense all season, and big plays have come in both the running game and the passing game. The receivers are a big threat too, and quarterback Jake Fromm is good at finding them running free in open spaces. Georgia’s receivers also are threats on jet sweeps. Look for some success there, as well.

4. Fromm will complete more than 70 percent of his passes

Fromm is on the verge of a breaking a coveted school record. Aaron Murray’s school-record passer rating of 174.8 could be broken with a big night. Fromm sits at 175.8, a true measure of his effectiveness this season. He has completed 68.4 percent of his passes this season and has 27 touchdown throws to just 5 interceptions. There’s no reason he can’t pick apart the Texas defense to break that mark.

5. Justin Fields will play, and to a mixed reaction from Bulldogs fans

True freshman quarterback Justin Fields has indicated he wants to pursue transferring, but he also said he wants to play in the Sugar Bowl, so you can plan on him getting a chance. It’s going to be interesting to see how he’s received by the Georgia fans at the game. Expect a smattering of boos, since many people believe he’s whining and turning his back on the program.

6. Tyson Campbell will have a big game to end season on high note

It has been an interesting season for 5-star freshman cornerback Tyson Campbell. He earned a starting position in fall camp, the only true freshman to do so on a loaded roster, and he played well at times but also got burned a bunch as well, sometimes because of communication issues, and sometimes by a better receiver. He lost his starting job late in the season, but will start again Tuesday with Deandre Baker sitting out the game to prepare for the NFL Draft. Look for an interception from Campbell, and a game that comes out with good grades for him.

7. Pass rush might be a concern if D’Andre Walker isn’t a full-go

D’Andre Walker is the only Bulldog with multiple sacks this season, which is sad. He suffered a groin injury in the SEC Championship Game against Alabama, and he was missed in a huge way when he couldn’t be on the field during the Crimson Tide’s dramatic comeback. Walker is close to 100 percent for this game, but we’ll have to see how he looks once the game starts.

8. Kirby Smart won’t try any foolish fake kicks

Smart made a bad decision in trying a fake field goal in the loss to LSU, and an even dumber decision to go for a fake punt against Alabama. Hopefully, that craziness is over and he gets through the bowl game without doing anything stupid.

9. Rodrigo Blankenship will have a perfect kicking day

Georgia kicker Rodrigo Blankenship has had a great year, making 19-of-23 field goal attempts and all 62 extra points. He missed a very critical field goal attempt against Alabama that seemed to fly under the radar a little bit, so he’ll erase those thoughts by being perfect Tuesday night. He’ll  get plenty of opportunities.

10. Bulldogs fans will want to be preseason No. 1 in 2019

Georgia fans thought this could have been a national championship season, but it didn’t quite happen. The Bulldogs had Alabama beat in the SEC Championship Game, and let it slip away. With so much talent coming back and another great recruiting class on the way, the hype for 2019 starts at the final whistle Tuesday night. September can’t get here soon enough.
