Being the quarantine quarterback was difficult in 2020, and that was former Georgia star Jake Fromm’s introduction to the NFL.

Because of COVID-19 protocols, the Buffalo Bills, who selected Fromm in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, had Fromm separated from the rest of the team in case they needed to call on him following a virus outbreak. And because the NFL canceled the 2020 preseason, players like Fromm didn’t get a chance to play.

Now Fromm is getting his chance.

Coach Sean McDermott announced at a press conference on Wednesday that starting QB Josh Allen would not play in the Bills’ preseason game on Friday, so that means that Fromm will be among the QBs to take snaps against the Detroit Lions.

Fromm spoke to reporters and discussed what the experience was like.

“Definitely just an interesting five, six months for me,” Fromm said via press conference, per Bills Wire. “Very tough, very lonely at times. It was very different. We were in the stadium last Saturday [for practice in front of fans] and it just felt like real football. It felt like you can go out, have fun, play loose, and be free. It’s been great.”

McDermott echoed that sentiment.

“Yeah, it’s huge. You try to simulate it out here as best as you can but there’s still something to be said for playing a game in front of a crowd and in real game situations,” McDermott said. “It has been a while for Jake.”

Fromm’s play will go a long way in deciding how many quarterbacks the Bills keep on their roster after they signed backup Mitchell Trubisky in the offseason. In the past, they have shifted third-string Davis Webb to the practice squad.
