JT Daniels decided that it was best to medically retire from college football after suffering multiple concussions throughout his career, according to a report.

Daniels told ESPN’s Pete Thamel the news on Friday. The last time that Daniels suited up for the Owls was the game against SMU. Daniels suffered another concussion during that game and doctors advised him to retire.

The next move for Daniels is in coaching, he told ESPN.

“I’m definitely excited to get into coaching, that’s for sure. I loved playing. I always knew one day I’d coach,” said Daniels. “I didn’t think it would come this soon. But one day, I knew that’s what I was going to be doing.”

Daniels played for 4 different college football programs over the course of his career. He started off his journey at USC in 2018. After a couple seasons there, he transferred to Georgia.

The quarterback opted to transfer again after the 2021 season and landed with West Virginia. After a season with the Mountaineers, Daniels finally headed to Rice.

It’s unfortunate that Daniels’ career is over so soon after putting up good numbers while at Rice. Daniels played in 9 games with 2,443 yards passing, 22 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions.
