Kirby Smart has announced a couple of changes to his coaching staff for the 2024 season.

Special teams coordinator Scott Cochran and offensive analyst Darrell Dickey have both resigned to pursue other opportunities, per the announcement.

“I want to thank Scott and Darrell for their contributions to Georgia football. We wish them all the best moving forward,” Smart said in a statement.

Smart also announced that Kirk Benedict will be promoted to replace Cochran as UGA’s special teams coordinator. Benedict was a special teams analyst for the Bulldogs for the past 2 seasons.

Cochran’s departure was reported earlier in the day on Wednesday. He joined Georgia as the program’s special teams coordinator in 2020, but had been serving in an off-field role since 2022. Cochran previously spent more than a decade at Alabama as the Tide’s strength and conditioning coach.

Dickey spent the 2023 season as an analyst for the Bulldogs. He has a long college football coaching career that includes stints at Texas A&M, Memphis and LSU. He was the offensive coordinator for Texas A&M as recently as the 2022 season.

Benedict played football at Davidson and has previously served as a special teams coordinator at Duke.
