Jake Fromm’s non-throwing hand injury was the main topic of discussion last week.

Fromm broke his left hand in a freak off-season lake accident, and he’ll be fine for the season. Following the news, social media debated the amount of risk athletes should take off-the-field. Obviously, Fromm — or any other SEC player — can’t live in a bubble and sit at home all the time. Fromm got a fishing lure stuck in his knee earlier this off-season, too.

On Monday at Bruce Arians’ Georgia Celebrity Golf Classic at Lake Oconee, Kirby Smart was asked indirectly about how Fromm is spending his off-season time.

“We do what we do as kids,” Smart said, via Jason Butt of Macon.com. “I did the same thing when I was playing. A lot of people do that. I don’t think you live your life scared and worried about that. You want to be safe, you want to take precaution, but you don’t want things like that to control your lifestyle.”

Yes, Fromm is the face of Georgia football as the starting QB, but anyone can get injured while driving to class or the store. Now, if he was out doing something totally stupid, that’s different, but he wasn’t. It was a freak accident, and the best news of all for UGA is that it won’t affect his status for the season.
