The injury bug has been rough on Kentucky’s quarterback room this season, leaving Wildcats coach Mark Stoops with limited options. In Week 7, Stoops turned to do-it-all athlete Lynn Bowden Jr. at quarterback. Bowden was responsible for all three UK touchdowns in the team’s Week 7 24-20 win over Arkansas. Bowden was 7-of-11 passing for 78 yards and a touchdown while running the ball 24 times for 196 yards and two touchdowns. The performance reminds Georgia coach Kirby Smart of a Bulldogs great.

“He reminds me of Hines. Hines Ward, anytime he got the ball back there at quarterback, what happens is you play conventional coverage and you forget the guy back there is always open,” Smart said at his Tuesday press conference. “Probably the most dangerous place he has as a football player is when he has the ball in space, at punt return, at kick return, a screen and every play at quarterback is that. He’s sitting there with seven lanes in front of him that he can take off and run. …”

Smart went on to identify some of the things the Razorbacks defense allowed to happen which UGA will look to prevent.

“Some of (Bowden’s) most explosive plays the other night were on third downs that were dropped-back passes,” Smart said. “It makes you play the game so different – it’s unusual and in college football, you’re not used to playing that kind of game. So, it makes you call the game differently.”

Bowden and the Cats will take on No. 10 Georgia on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Athens. The game will air on ESPN.
