Georgia has a rare meeting with Texas A&M this week as the programs haven’t played since the Aggies joined the league in 2012.

Jimbo Fisher’s team brings a different scheme than teams typically use noways and Georgia coach Kirby Smart explained what makes it unique.

“First thing is multiple formations and personnel groupings they use… overall team speed, very consistent special teams,” he said on the SEC media teleconference. “They have really good players at every position. (The offense is) different when you see the 2-back runs, not many use that anymore, others do it with a tight end… they move the pocket really well.”

Smart also said the Aggies’ defense has improved throughout the season, and A&M’s top-notch punter Braden McCann.

“I can’t say enough about the defensive coordinator, he has always created havoc and turnovers,” he said. “The kicking game will always be important, it always is and that never changes.”

Is Georgia facing a rivalry hangover following the Auburn win?

“We don’t try to acknowledge that, you challenge the leaders to go out and play,” he said. “Our kids are preparing hard, they have a lot of respect for them and understand the challenges they present.”

Here’s what else Smart said on the call:

  • on Iron Bowl from the Kick Six game: I don’t really remember much from that game… I was worried about the defense, trying to stop them, the back and forth game.
  • on Nick Saban overruling calls on the field? I wouldn’t know about that (calls on offense).
  • on Georgia’s WRs: we are fighting for experience, we have 2 really young ones out there… we lost all our pass catchers. We need to see more consistency, we are trying to help them with scheme, opportunities, play action, freeing up release. we try to help them and they try to help us… they have been banged up, too.
  • on Monty Rice: his confidence in the system is at an all-time high… he knew it last year but he was banged up… things are happening for the 100th time, instead of 50th… he is one step ahead and in football, that allows you to make plays.
