Kirby Smart finally broke the news about who will starting at quarterback for Georgia this season. Smart revealed his decision at a press conference on Saturday.

Between Carson Beck and Brock Vandagriff, Smart ended up going with Beck as the Bulldog’s QB1. Gunner Stockton was also apparently in the mix for the job.

Beck was a former 4-star quarterback from the 2020 class. The 247 Composite ranked Beck as the No. 9 pro-style QB and the No. 39 player out of Florida. Beck is a native of Jacksonville.

This will be the first time in a while that Stetson Bennett will not be the starting quarterback for the Bulldogs. Bennett was taken in the fourth round of this year’s NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams.

Bennett led Georgia to back-to-back national titles after throwing for 2,862 yards with 30 total touchdowns last season. The road to a third consecutive national championship will be a little more difficult as Beck does not have the same amount of experience.

If Georgia manages to win another national title this season, it would become the first FBS team since Minnesota in the 1930s to three-peat as champions.

Beck’s first game as Georgia’s starting quarterback will be on Sept. 2 against UT Martin. Kickoff will be 6 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
