Kirby Smart offered the latest update on JT Daniels’ health as the Georgia starting quarterback looks to return to action following an oblique injury suffered about 2 weeks ago.

At his Monday press conference, Smart said Daniels has received treatment twice since Saturday, and “definitely improved.” He was better Saturday than he was the previous days, Smart said.

Smart said Daniels felt pain with his oblique prior to the Clemson game, but it was aggravated during the Clemson game 2 weeks ago. Daniels woke up Sunday after the Clemson game and really felt something, Smart said.

“The approach is rest, recovery, and treatment,” Smart said. “The biggest thing that we’ve been told is you just don’t want to aggravate it. … It’s a really, really painful injury, it’s hard to relieve that pain, he has to heal and it takes time, but again, he’s improved with each and every day.”

Ultimately, it is too soon to know Daniels’ status for the week. Smart said it is difficult to prepare 3 quarterbacks during the week, so he couldn’t forecast how Carson Beck, for example, might factor into the game plan.
