Kirby Smart had a lot of praise for Missouri quarterback Brady Cook when asked about the veteran passer at his weekly press conference on Monday.

This will be Cook’s third start against the Bulldogs in his career. And while he’s yet to lead Mizzou to an upset over UGA, Cook has avoided mistakes in this matchup. In his previous two games, he has completed 34-of-51 passes for 270 yards, 1 touchdown and 0 interceptions.

But Cook has made a big leap this season in terms of his efficiency. He’s averaging a career-best 9.3 yards per attempt and has a passer rating that ranks third amongst all SEC quarterbacks.

Here’s what Smart had to say about Cook as the Bulldogs prepare to face him on Saturday with first place in the SEC East on the line:

“He’s very bright. Sharp. Athletic. Gets the ball out in something like 2.3 seconds, 2.2 seconds. So he knows where he’s going with the ball. He understands coverages. It’s like all quarterbacks you play that have experience. They make good decisions. They don’t many mistakes. I mean, he maybe broke a record for number of consecutive passes without an interception or something like that. The guy doesn’t make very many mistakes and he’s accurate. And he’s athletic. So I don’t know what else you can ask a quarterback to be than those things.”

Indeed, Cook did set a SEC record earlier this season for most consecutive passes thrown without an interception. That streak did eventually come to an end with 2 interceptions throw vs. LSU earlier this month.

Georgia is 11-1 all-time against Mizzou. The Tigers’ only win in this series came back in 2013.

Kickoff on Saturday is set for 3:30 p.m. ET from Athens.
