Kirby Smart spoke about Carson Beck’s leadership traits on Wednesday as Georgia gets set to open fall camp. The coach said the quarterback has maintained an even-keeled nature since he was recruited in 11th grade.

Beck is likely to step into the shoes of Stetson Bennett, who evolved into a clutch quarterback who could deliver in the most crucial situation, which forged Georgia’s path to the last 2 national championships.

“He’s not a highs and lows, he’s not a real emotional guy,” Smart said. “He’s not a real fiery guy. He’s very laid back. He understands his job, he’s very intelligent. Every leader has their own way, and he certainly commands a room. I think the players around him understand how bright he is, and Carson’s had a lot of reps and a lot of work, they just all haven’t been game reps. So he’s had a huge mass of reps against a good defense. So his leadership method is still kind of being developed, so no different than Gunner (Stockton) and Brock (Vandagriff). They each one has different ways about them, and that’s true about the guy who just left, too.”
