Georgia’s Mark Richt is one of 12 new members on the NCAA’s new oversight committee, designed as a comprehensive clearinghouse on all Division I football-related issues that will curtail individual coaches from influencing the governing body’s rules-making process.

Richt is the only FBS coach on a committee comprised of athletic directors, conference commissioners and a student athlete to be named later.

According to CBS Sports, one of the committee’s first items on the agenda is to consider conference title game deregulation. The oversight committee will streamline the rules-making process and strengthen its efficiency.

Per the NCAA’s release:

The oversight committee will ensure that appropriate oversight of football for both the Football Bowl Subdivision and Football Championship Subdivision is maintained; enhance the development of the sport and make recommendations related to regular-season and postseason football. The committee will prioritize enhancement of the student-athlete educational experience (academically and athletically), and in doing so, promote student-athletes’ personal growth and leadership development. It will work in conjunction with appropriate governance entities to provide solutions to issues impacting the health and safety of football student-athletes.

Recommendations from the committee will go to the NCAA Council. The NCAA rules committee reports to the oversight committee.
