It has been widely reported that there’s a good chance that Alabama DB coach Mel Tucker will join Kirby Smart’s Georgia staff as the defensive coordinator.

There has been nothing official to date, and reports of him interviewing for a head coaching opening at UTSA recently gave some reason to doubt that idea.

But this Tweet from Glenn Schumann on Tuesday morning should end all doubt:

Following Monday night’s national championship win with the Crimson Tide, Tucker sounded like a man that didn’t want to reveal a secret, but also knew there was change coming soon.

According to a report from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Chip Towers, Tucker is excited to “move on to the next thing.”

Here’s what Tucker had to say to Towers after Monday night’s victory:

“I think tomorrow would be a better time (to talk about the Georgia job),” Tucker said following the Crimson Tide’s 45-40 win over Clemson in the national championship game. “I’m just going to enjoy this win. It’s such a great group of guys and coaches. So I’m going to enjoy this for 24 hours.”

Towers said that Tucker indicated members of the media concerned whether they had reported his job future correctly would “be OK” in the meantime.

Tucker has been a defensive coordinator at the NFL level on three different occasions, most recently with the Chicago Bears. He’ll be plenty prepared to orchestrate the Bulldogs defense.
