The big news in the SEC on Wednesday came out of Georgia, where Wake Forest graduate transfer QB Jamie Newman officially decided to opt out of the 2020 season amid COVID-19 concerns.

That’s a tough choice each and every player across the country has to make, and Newman had decided to sit out during the pandemic.

However, moving forward, Georgia now needs a new quarterback. USC transfer JT Daniels is eligible to play right away after getting a waiver from the NCAA, but he hasn’t been medically cleared after suffering an injury last year with the Trojans.

Naturally, that led to speculation that Georgia could turn to a familiar face — one that helped lead Ohio State to the College Football Playoff last season. Of course, we’re talking about Justin Fields, who was spotted at Georgia’s scrimmage on Saturday, adding to the intrigue.

Fields started trending on Twitter shortly after the news about Newman broke. Here’s some of the mixed reaction toward Fields potentially heading back to Athens:

Is a Fields-Georgia reunion likely? No. But, is speculating wildly about it fun? Of course it is.

Either way, Georgia needs a new starter, so we’ll see where coach Kirby Smart turns moving forward.
