Georgia made a major statement Sunday thrashing Tennessee 41-0 in Neyland Stadium.

The Vols look absolutely lifeless right now.

But Georgia doesn’t, and in fact, the media is talking more about the statement the Bulldogs made than the statement Alabama made against Ole Miss.

When on SportsCenter Sunday morning, ESPN’s Paul Finebaum and Booger McFarland gushed about Alabama East, even talking College Football Playoff.

“Kirby has Georgia looking like a mini-Alabama,” McFarland said. “They’re a legitimate playoff contender.”

Finebaum took it from there, and he points to three games that could be tougher for the Bulldogs.

“You do the math and you’re right,” Finebaum said. “They have Florida, go to Auburn, then Alabama (SEC Championship Game). I think Georgia could make the playoff.”

Georgia and Alabama appear to be on a collision course for the SEC Championship Game, and the last time those two teams hooked up in Atlanta (2012), it was the hypothetical national championship game. Alabama went on to destroy Notre Dame.

In addition to Finebaum and McFarland, Kirk Herbstreit also included Georgia at No. 5, just outside his top four teams.

Kirby Smart is building a serious program, and time will tell whether these Bulldogs can live up to this hype.
