Georgia is looking to get back into the College Football Playoff for the first time since 2017. Paul Finebaum thinks it will happen.

The Bulldogs are No. 5 in the Associated Preseason Top 25, but Finebaum sees Kirby Smart’s squad moving into the top four CFP rankings during the season. The SEC Network host shared his thoughts during a recent appearance on ESPN’s “SportsNation.”

“Georgia, now they are right outside the top four; they are No. 5 but here’s the interesting part about Georgia,” Finebaum said, per 247Sports. “They play Clemson in the first game, Clemson right now is (number) 2 or 3 depending on your favorite poll. So should Georgia win and I think they will, they have a great opportunity to move up probably to No. 2 and I think there’s an outside shot it’s No. 1 if Alabama looks poor in their opener. To me Georgia after that only has one real big game during the season and that’s Florida. They’ll probably have to deal with Alabama at the end of the year and that won’t be easy, but I like their chances.”

The CFP rankings and AP rankings are not interchangeable, but the AP Poll tends to strongly influence the selection committee’s rankings. We’ll see if Finebaum is right about Georgia moving up from top 5 to top 4 during the season.
